Prof. Dr. Engin Ulukaya, 1987 yılında mezun olduğu İstanbul Üniversitesi Cerrahpaşa Tıp Fakültesini takiben Uludağ Üniversitesinde Tıbbi Biyokimya uzmanlığını bitirmiştir. University of Leeds (UK), School of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology’de doktora (PhD) eğitimini tamamlamıştır. Temel kanser araştırmaları, hücre ölümü, kanser ilaç geliştirme, ve kişiye yönelik onkoloji alanlarında çalışmalar yapmaktadır. Moleküler kanser araştırma derneği (MOKAD) başkanlığının yanısıra, EACR (European Association for Cancer Research)’de Konsey Üyesi ve EORTC PathoBiology alt grubu asil üyesidir. Uluslararası saygın hakemli dergilerde yaklaşık 200 makale yayınlamıştır (Google Scholar H indeks:48, alınan atıf sayısı:7020, Nisan 2025). 2003 yılında Güney Kore’de düzenlenen dünya patoloji ve laboratuvar tıbbı derneği (WASPALM) kongresinde “gelecek vaat eden laboratuvar hekimi” ödülünü almış ve WASPALM madalyasına hak kazanmıştır. Ayrıca 3’ü yurt dışı, 32 adet çeşitli kategorilerde ödülü bulunmaktadır. İstinye Üniversitesi Sağlık Bilimleri Dekanlığı görevini yürütmektedir. Ayrıca aynı üniversitenin Moleküler Kanser Uygulama ve Araştırma Merkezi (İSÜMKAM) Direktörüdür.
